Context
India remains largely dependent on fossil fuels, and in rural areas millions rely on firewood for cooking and heating, resulting in significant environmental and health impacts.
Objectives and approach
The project aims to generate clean energy from 26.4 MW of wind capacity, avoiding over 73,000 tons of CO₂ annually and supporting the sustainable development of the Rajasthan region.
Objectives
The main objectives are to avoid greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil fuel-based generation with renewable energy; supply approximately 50 GWh of sustainable electricity per year to the NEWE grid; support the development of local infrastructure and improve energy access for communities and businesses; create employment opportunities during construction and operation; contribute to diversifying India’s energy mix; and encourage future investments in renewables. In the long term, the project aims to strengthen the region’s climate and economic resilience.
Approach
The project involves the installation and operation of 33 Enercon E-53 turbines, with a total capacity of 26.4 MW. The electricity generated, approximately 50 GWh per year, is fed into the local grid, replacing energy from fossil fuel sources. Estimated avoided emissions exceed 73,000 tons of CO₂ annually. The project’s financial model is based on the sale of carbon credits. Beyond producing clean energy, the initiative stimulates the local economy through the development of roads, infrastructure, and related services, providing direct and lasting benefits to the community.
