Ecoluxury’s contribution accounts for 100% of the projects total positive impact.
Context
On the island of Lipari, water scarcity and adverse climatic conditions put crops and biodiversity at risk. The 'vite ad alberello' method used at Tenuta di Castellaro provides resilient and sustainable solutions.
Stakeholders and local partners
Who are the key stakeholders?
Objectives and approach
The goal is to regenerate Lipari's historic vineyards using the head-trained bush vine cultivation method, combining winemaking tradition, environmental sustainability, and local development.
Objectives
The project aims to build agricultural resilience under the harsh local conditions characterised by water scarcity, preserve native grape varieties, and promote a sustainable production model. At the same time, it seeks to strengthen the cultural and historical identity of the area, creating economic and employment opportunities for the local community.
Approach
The approach combines traditional agricultural practices with scientific innovation. Head-trained bush vine cultivation eliminates the use of machinery, reducing emissions and pollution. Massal selection of historic varieties and monitoring of the plants’ gas exchanges make it possible to quantify the climate benefits. The project enhances the landscape and local traditions and creates wine tourism and cultural experiences, strengthening the bond between the community, visitors, and nature.
