Objectives
The key objectives of the Russas-Valparaíso project are to conserve over 170,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest, to safeguard unique habitats, and to prevent the release of millions of tons of CO₂e. The project is committed to improving the livelihoods of local communities by providing alternative sustainable livelihoods, thereby reducing pressure on forest resources. Another key goal is to ensure transparency of the carbon credits generated, offering the market reliable tools for emissions offsetting. Additionally, the initiative aims to strengthen scientific research and ecological monitoring, ensuring that biodiversity in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest is preserved for the long term.
Approach
The approach adopted by the project is multi-level, combining technological, social, and economic tools. Local communities play an active role in the process: trained as rangers and farmers, they become stewards of the land. At the same time, collaboration with private and institutional partners ensures financial stability and transparency, while support from scientific research enhances knowledge of the ecosystems.
